Windows 7 LCARS Boot Skin, Finished!!!
Sorry about the three exclamation marks. My forum etiquette is usually much better, but I've been searching all day and so far found no boot skins for LCARS in Windows 7. So, I went and made one. Download Here! (that's my site, so it's as trustworthy as I am. Google me: BlinksTale) It's a megabyte and a half in size, and all the instructions (plus an installation program) are in there. The format is bs7, which I'm not sure if it's unique to the included program or not... so generally, just follow the instructions. Anyways, I thought I owed it to the forum to make something, since I'm loving the LCARS interface so much - and I'm getting so many compliments on how cool my computer looks now. (also using Javascript to make all web pages white text on black, or Stylish for Wiki/Google, and a Windows Classic theme with white on black for all windows) So I hope this is of some use to the community. Enjoy!

Sounds good mate. I have one question is it possible to post a screenshot of the boot screen so that we could see it before we download it.

Sure thing! Here's the original boot skin: Microsoft and Windows style and here's my version: LCARS and Star Trek-y The UFP logo zooms into view, then the loop animation is of its stars disappearing and reappearing.

Wow, I have no idea what happened, but when I installed that, loaded the boot skin, and restarted, my computer turned on with a blank white screen and didn't load anything! If your computer doesn't have system restore set up (which thankfully mine does), I wouldn't recommend trying this! Anybody have any idea why this might have happened? I have a windows 7 widescreen Acer laptop, so I'm thinking maybe the program wasn't made for widescreen displays and it screwed something up?

My PC didn't explode or anything, but... The animation does load at startup (part of it anyway) however; it only shows the middle of it with the UFP logo. It's ok by me, but I thought you would like to know.. It does show the whole thing in the fullscreen preview. I'm using Windows 7 32bit with a core 2 duo processor and dual 1024 x 768 monitors.

Re: Windows 7 LCARS Boot Skin, Finished!!!
My apologies for what happened Bidibodibidibu! I am personally running on a dual monitor widescreen setup, 1680x1050 & 1280x768, and have not had any issues before with this. I know that the boot screen itself is a 1024x768 resolution, so my only suggestion would be checking to see if your monitor is having issues with 1024x768 images. If you run into problems again, you should be able to boot in Safe Mode, which would let you change settings like this one back. You just have to press one of the F1-F12 buttons (the text at startup will tell you which) and from there, everything should load in a reserved state. Then there's an option in the program I included in the zip, which lets you reset to the default bootup screen. As for only the UFP image showing up and not the background: make sure that (in the application for setting it up) the option called Method, right in the middle of the screen, is set to Complete and not Simple. That's what enables the background, and check this for both the Booting tab (at the top) and the Resuming tab (also at the top). Also, just try reapplying the new boot skin, sometimes that does it. (as you can tell, this is very refined and scientific ;P) For the colors: any recommendations for exact hex codes or HSB? I only have access to Paint right now, but I will do what I can to make this look a little bit nicer.

Hey tomgb, Sorry, but I do not know how it will work (if even) on a resolution that is only 600px tall. Are you really running Windows 7 on that resolution? I have not run into this situation before, but the bootskin is designed for a 768px height minimum.
